Product details
A cinch bag is a lightweight drawstring backpack: a single compartment closed by two cords that run through the bottom corners and double as shoulder straps. Pull the cords and the bag cinches shut and is ready to wear. BAGSGeek makes them in 100% woven cotton and canvas, screen printed with your logo, from a minimum of 100 pieces.
Almost every cinch sack on the promotional market is 210D polyester. Ours are not. Cotton and canvas cost a little more per unit, but they feel like something worth keeping rather than something to throw away after an event, and they take a screen print with far better colour depth than a shiny synthetic face.
Cinch bag, cinch sack, string backpack: same bag, different names
The naming is genuinely confusing, and it is all one product. Cinch bag, cinch sack and cinch pack are the promotional-industry terms. String backpack, string bag and drawstring backpack are what most buyers type. Knapsack and sackpack turn up in athletic catalogues, and sinch bag and synch bag are simply common misspellings of the same thing. If you are comparing suppliers, you are comparing the same object under six names.
The one real distinction worth knowing: a cinch bag has no separate straps. The drawcord is the strap. That is what separates it from a conventional backpack and why it is so much cheaper to make and so much lighter to ship.
Cotton and canvas versus polyester
- Feel and perceived value — cotton has weight and texture. It reads as a gift; 210D polyester reads as swag.
- Print quality — screen ink sinks into a cotton weave and stays matte and dense. On coated polyester it sits on top and can look glossy or crack over time.
- Reuse — a cotton cinch bag is machine washable and gets used for years, so your logo keeps circulating. That is the entire return on a promotional bag.
- End of life — natural cotton, no synthetic fibre, no plastic to dispose of.
- Where polyester still wins — water resistance. If the bag will be soaked regularly, poolside or in rain, say so and we will tell you honestly whether cotton is the right call.
Sizing a cinch bag
The standard adult cinch bag sits around 14 x 18 inches. That is large enough for a hoodie, a pair of trainers, a water bottle and a notebook, and it gives a print panel big enough to read from across a room. Go smaller, around 12 x 16 inches, for children, and larger, 16 x 20 inches and up, if the bag has to swallow a change of kit. We build to your dimensions rather than a fixed catalogue size, so if you need something between the standards, ask.
Reinforced bottom corners matter more than fabric weight on this style. The corners are where the cord passes through and where all the load concentrates — it is the first thing to fail on a cheap cinch sack.
Printing on a cinch bag
The front panel is the print area, and it is generous: on a 14 x 18 inch bag you can normally work with roughly 11 x 12 inches, keeping clear of the cord channel at the top and the reinforced corners at the bottom. Screen printing is standard, with each spot colour adding a screen — one- and two-colour logos give the best price and the crispest result. Back-panel printing is available if you want a sponsor on one side and a crest on the other. We confirm the exact imprint area on a free digital proof before printing.
Common uses for cinch bags
- Gym and sports kit — shoes, kit and a bottle, worn hands-free to training.
- School and club bags — PE kit, swim gear and after-school clubs, printed with a crest.
- Race and event packs — the bag runners get at registration and use for years afterwards.
- Conference and trade-show giveaways — lighter and cheaper to ship than a tote, and worn rather than carried.
- Team and sponsor merchandise — sponsor logo on the front panel, club crest on the back.
- Retail and product bundling — a reusable bag included with footwear, sportswear or outdoor gear.
- Camp, tour and travel groups — day bags handed out at the start of a trip.

Questions buyers ask
What is a cinch bag?
A cinch bag is a lightweight drawstring backpack with a single compartment. Two cords run through reinforced bottom corners and up through a channel at the top, so pulling them closes the bag and forms the shoulder straps. It has no separate straps, frame or padding, which is why it is far lighter and cheaper than a conventional backpack.
What is the difference between a cinch bag and a drawstring backpack?
Nothing. They are the same product under different names, along with cinch sack, string backpack, string bag, sackpack and knapsack. "Cinch bag" is the promotional-industry term; "drawstring backpack" is what most buyers search for. Sinch bag and synch bag are common misspellings of the same item.
What size should a custom cinch bag be?
14 x 18 inches is the standard adult size and suits most uses: a hoodie, trainers, a bottle and a notebook. Use around 12 x 16 inches for children, and 16 x 20 inches or larger if the bag has to hold a full change of kit. We make to your dimensions rather than a fixed catalogue size.
Are your cinch bags polyester?
No. Ours are 100% woven cotton or canvas. Most cinch sacks on the promotional market are 210D polyester, which is cheaper and water resistant but feels disposable and takes a glossier, less durable print. Cotton costs slightly more per unit and gets kept and reused, which is where the return on a promotional bag actually comes from. If the bag genuinely needs to be waterproof, tell us and we will say so rather than sell you the wrong fabric.
What is the minimum order for custom cinch bags?
100 pieces. Per-unit pricing falls as volume rises, with meaningful steps at 500, 1,000 and 5,000.
How large can the logo be on a cinch bag?
On a standard 14 x 18 inch bag the usable front panel is roughly 11 x 12 inches, keeping clear of the cord channel at the top and the reinforced corners at the bottom. Back-panel printing is available as a second location. We confirm the exact imprint area for your chosen size on the free digital proof.
