What GSM actually means for you
GSM is grams per square metre. It is the single number that predicts most of a tote's behaviour, and it is the number cheap listings most often omit.
- 100–140 GSM — lightweight, slightly translucent. Fine for inserts and one-day giveaways. Stretches out of shape under weight and reads as disposable.
- 145 GSM — the workhorse. Opaque, durable for daily use, prints cleanly, cheap to ship. The default for events, retail carriers and promotional runs.

Size and handles still matter more than fabric
A well-chosen 145 GSM tote beats a badly specified canvas one. Size around what goes in it: 9x11 inches for A4 conference material, 15x16 for a grocery shop or trade-show swag, 18x20 for bedding and hampers.
