Printing on black: the underbase problem
This is the detail that surprises people at quote stage. Screen ink is semi-transparent, so a light colour printed straight onto black looks grey and muddy. To make it read true, a white layer is printed first as an underbase, then the top colour over it.
That underbase is an extra screen and an extra pass — so a white logo on a black bag is usually priced like a two-colour job, and a two-colour logo like a three-colour one. It is not a markup, it is an extra print. Budget for it.

Keep artwork bold. Fine hairlines and type below about 6pt struggle on any cotton weave and struggle more when an underbase is involved. Check the imprint area guide before sizing.
The two drawbacks
Lint shows. Black cotton picks up pale dust and fibre the way dark clothing does. If bags are stored open, handled a lot, or filled alongside anything powdery, they will need a wipe before they look their best on a counter.
Batch variation is more visible. All dyed cotton shifts slightly between production runs. On natural that is invisible; on black, two batches side by side can read as slightly different depths. Wash cold on a gentle cycle and air dry. Expect a small amount of colour release on the very first wash, as with any dyed natural fibre — wash the first load separately. Black fades slightly over years of direct sun, so it holds up better in a drawer or a shop than on an outdoor market stall.
